About Programme

With the reorganization of education faculties, the departments and departments were restructured in the 2016-2017 academic year, and with the new arrangement, the Science Education Department under the Gazi Faculty of Education Department of Mathematics and Science Education. The language of instruction of the Science Education Department is Turkish and the education period is 4 years. There are 14 professors, 7 associate professors, 5 doctor lecturers,  2 research assistant doctors, 3 research assistants in the department. In the undergraduate education in Science Education Department; In addition to field courses such as physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and field education courses, education courses related to teaching profession and general culture courses are also taught. In addition, our students take the first steps to the teaching profession on the field by completing the school experience and teaching practice lessons in primary schools.

History
Teacher Training in Sciences programme was founded in the Department of Mathematics and Science Education at the Gazi Faculty of Education to meet the need of Ministry of National Education for science teachers and 40 students were enrolled in the programme in academic year of 1992-1993. Teacher Training in Sciences programme was changed to Department of Teacher Training in Sciences in 1994 by the regulation of The Council of Higher Education.
Departments and programs of education faculties were reconstructed in the academic year of 2016-2017 and Teacher Training in Sciences branch was started education in the Department of Mathematics and Science Education.The language of instruction is Turkish and it takes 4 years to complete undergraduate education in the programme. Programme has currently 14 professors, 7 associated professors, 5 assistant professors, 2 research assistant doctors and 3 research assistants at different fields of expertise. Undergraduate programme consist of courses about science, including physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics; courses about pedagogical content knowledge; pedagogy and general knowledge. Additionally, students take on-field school experience and teaching practicum courses in order to take first steps towards becoming a science teacher.

Graduates of undergraduate program can apply to study in graduate programs.
Graduation Requirements
Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Our graduates have the opportunity to work for the Ministry of National Education and private educational institutions as science teachers and as academicians.
Assessment and Grading
(1) For each course taken, students are given a letter success grade at the end of the semester/year.
(2) This grade is given by the instructor of the course.
(3) While evaluating the letter grade, a student?s success at classes, mid-terms/final examinations and attendance to classes are considered. The calculation of the letter grade is determined by the approval of the related academic unit and the Senate.
(4) The success grade of a student is calculated over 100 points. This grade is called raw success point.
(5) A student whose raw success point is under 25.00 is directly given an FF grade and the student fails the course. The success grade of a student whose raw success point is 25.00 and above is evaluated by using the methods determined by the board decisions of the Educational Commission of the University and the Senate; with the letter grades of which coefficients and explanations are mentioned below. After this evaluation, it is also possible that the raw success points 25.00 and above may become FF letter grades.

3) E: Incomplete (The E grades which are not corrected until after 3 weeks from the finalization of letter success grades are converted to FF)
4) VZ: Withdrawn
(7) A student whose letter success grade is (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB), (CC), (DC) or (DD) is considered as succeeded the course. However, the CumGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of the student must be at least 2,00 for graduation.
