Gazi University Faculty of Medicine was established on October 2, 1979 as the Faculty of Medicine affiliated to the Ankara Academy of Economics and Commercial Sciences (AİTIA). All institutions of AITIA and the Faculty of Medicine are affiliated with the newly established Gazi University. The faculty accelerated its development after that; With its internal organization within the faculty, it established its departments on 5.11.1982. The Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology was established under the name of the Department of Morphology. Histology and Embryology course in the faculty started for the first time in the 1980-1981 academic year with second year students. The courses were undertaken by the Department of Pathology. The first lecturer of the department, Assoc. Dr. M. Tahir Hatiboğlu. In October 1983, G.Ü. Faculty of Dentistry Histology and Embryology Assistant Müfide Görgün, G.Ü. He was appointed to the Faculty of Medicine as the first assistant. Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine faculty member Assoc. Dr. Deniz Erdogan was appointed as a lecturer and Head of the Department on 02.05.1984.
The Department of Histology and Embryology, which has been operating since the foundation of Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, is an institution that provides education at undergraduate, specialty in medicine, master's and doctorate levels. Currently, 4 lecturers and 2 lecturers are employed to carry out these activities. Master's and doctorate education is carried out in the form of theoretical and practical courses. The theoretical part of the education is carried out in the form of one-to-one lectures, either in the lecture halls of the students, in the student practice laboratories or in the rooms of the faculty members. The practical part of the training is the examination of tissue preparations using a computerized image support system light microscope in the Histology and Embryology student laboratory, and practical applications of histological research methods in the Histology and Embryology research laboratory. In the Histology and Embryology Department, advanced analyzes can be made with all kinds of routine histological techniques, histochemical methods and computerized imaging of the obtained results.

History
Gazi University Faculty of Medicine was founded as a part of Ankara School of Financial and Commercial Sciences on October 2, 1979. The efforts of trying to build a new Faculty of Medicine started in the first months of 1979. As a result, an agreement was established to use the Dr. Muhittin Ulker Emergency and Traumatology Hospital which belonged to The Turkish Traffic Accidents Aid Foundation but was run by The Ministry of Social Aid, in the Balgat district of Ankara. With a protocol signed by Ankara School of Financial and Commercial Sciences, The Ministry of Health and Social Aid, The Turkish Traffic Accidents Aid Foundation in March 26, 1979, the Dr. Muhittin Ulker Emergency and Traumatology Hospital becomes Ankara School of Financial and Commercial Sciences? Medical School?s Treatment and Research Hospital. After the preparations Ankara School of Financial and Commercial Sciences? Medical School was established on October 2, 1979 in accordance with law number 20695 article 3 and starts serving people in the Dr. Muhittin Ulker Emergency and Traumatology Hospital. This new faculty was Ankara?s 3rd and Turkey?s 18th Faculty of Medicine. Anatomy and Histology and Embryology Departments were established under the name Morphology Department. Histology and Embryology course in the Faculty was first given to second year students in the 1980-1981 academic year. Courses are given by the Pathology department. The first faculty member of the department, Assoc. Dr. M. Tahir Hatiboğlu (1982 - 1983), Assoc. Dr. Yüksel Saran (1983 - 1984) , Assoc. Dr. Deniz Erdoğan (1984 - 2015). Müfide Görgün was appointed as the first assistant of the Faculty of Medicine in October 1983. Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine academic staff member Assoc. Dr. Deniz Erdoğan was appointed as the head of the department and lecturer on 02.05.1984 and founded the department.
Qualification Awarded
Graduates succesfully completed the programme are given Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D) in Histology and Embryology.

Higher Grade Transition
Students who successfully complete the Ph.D. programme and meet the requirements of the courses can have a further academic career by being employed in the University as a faculty member meeting the requirements of ?Faculty Members Acceptance and Preferment Criteria?. In addition, they can apply to post-doc programmes.
Graduation Requirements
The forms of assessment and evaluation for each course are pre-determined by the relevant regulations of the Institute and ?Gazi University Post-Graduate Regulations?. See `Qualification Requirements and Regulations? section above.

Graduates of this program could be in the teach and research staff in departments of Histology and Embryology in medical, dentistry or biology faculties of universities.
Assessment and Grading
(1) Students take the final exam and/or the final project in addition to the mid-term exams and/or mid-term studies. Examination calendar is published on the website of the related academic department.
(2) The success of the students is evaluated with the methods and criteria which are stated on the course description forms that are declared at the beginning of semester.
(3) Students are obliged to succeed in must courses. They can reselect a failed elective course or select another elective instead.
(4) Mid-term exams and/or mid-term studies and final exam and/or the final project are evaluated over 100 raw points. Letter success grades over 100 raw points are given for seminars, thesis studies, term project courses and proficiency exams. To succeed in courses, the minimum letter success grades must be CC for master?s degree and CB for doctorate and integrated (post bachelor) doctorate.
(5) A student whose raw point is under 25 fails the course by receiving an (FF) grade directly. The success grade of a student whose raw point is 25 or above is evaluated with the grades of which coefficients and definitions are stated below considering the general status of the class, average points and statistical range. After this evaluation, it is possible for the letter success grade equivalents of raw points that are 25 and above to be (FF).

b) The letter grades other than the ones in the clause ?a? are:
1) D: Absent 2) G: Not attended 3) E: Incomplete (The E grades which are not corrected until after 3 weeks from the finalization of letter success grades are converted to FF) (7) The CumGPA is calculated via dividing the final grades of all of the courses throughout a student?s study period by the total number of credits. The obtained CumGPA is shown with two decimals after the point. (8) While calculating both the GPAs of semesters/years and the CumGPA, the letters grades from AA to FF are based on. G and D grades are processed as FF. (9) All grades are included in the transcripts of students. (10) For graduation, the CumGPA must be 2,50/4,00 minimum for master?s degree with or without thesis; 3,00/4,00 minimum for doctorate or integrated (post bachelor) doctorate programmes. Despite completing all the credits, students who cannot provide the graduation conditions take new courses to do so. (11) Students who do not provide the attendance conditions or other course requirements cannot take the final exam of the course and are regarded as absent (D).
