About Programme
The program is two years, consist of a lecture period and a thesis period. Cell and organ systems physiology is taught during the course period, and during the thesis period, students complete their thesis by actively participating in a research project with their advisors. In addition, students who graduate from this program gain the ability to conduct experimental research, evidence-based critical thinking and problem-solving skills in the field of physiology. In order to graduate, students must fulfill the requirements within the scope of Gazi University Graduate Education Examination Regulations and Master's application principles.

The Main Branch of Science
History
With the opening of the Faculty of Medicine affiliated to Ankara Economic and Commercial Sciences Academy (AITIA) on October 2, 1979, Physiology education started in the classes of AITIA's Pharmacy High School. The first chair of the Department of Physiology was Assoc. Prof. Övsev Dörtlemez and his assistant was Pharm. Atilla Ballı.
Physiology courses started with 18 students in the 1980-1981 academic year; at the same time, Dr. Aydan Babül was appointed to the Physiology Department as a lecturer.
Assoc. Prof. Övsev Dörtlemez, Assoc. Prof. Halis Dörtlemez, Assoc. Prof. Rana Olguntürk, Assoc. Prof. Türkiz Gürsel and Assoc. Prof. Ali İhsan Baysal supported the conduct of Physiology courses. During this period, physiology lectures of AITIA Faculty of Pharmacy and Dentistry were also conducted.
Establishment of "Gazi University" and "Gazi University Faculty of Medicine" has been accepted in 20 July 1982 with KHK-Number 41. Following the formation of the departments, Assoc. Prof. Aydan Babül was appointed as Head of the Physiology Department. In the same year, the Institute of Health Sciences was established and MasterSs and Doctorate education was initiated by Assoc. Prof. Rana Olguntürk, Assoc. Prof. Aydan Babül, Asst. Prof. Necla Öztürk (H.U.).
Dentist Deniz Erbaş and Specialist PT. Lamia Pınar Yanıçoğlu joined the staff as assistants; Assoc. Prof. Bilge Gönül joined the staff as Lecturer in 1985. Physiology Department within the Department of Basic Medical Sciences moved to the Dean's Office, which was completed in 1989 in the Faculty of Medicine Beşevler Campus, and new research and student laboratories were established.
In 1990, Dr. Sibel Dinçer; In 1992, Dr. Eser Öz; In 1994, Dr. Gonca Akbulut; In 1997, Dr. Çiğdem Özer; In 1999, Bio. Şevin Güney; In 2003, Dr. Tayfun Göktaş joined the Physiology Department as a research assistant.
In 2007, Professor Dr. Bilge Gönül and in 2013, Prof. Dr. Aydan Babül retired; Professor Dr. Eser Öz Oyar moved to another university in 2012 and left the department.
In September 2019, Dr. Ayşe Meltem Sevgili has been appointed to our department as a lecturer.

Admission Requirements
Admission Requirements
First Cycle (Bachelor's) Degree diploma, a minimum score of 65 in the Examination for Academic Personnel and Graduate Studies (ALES) or equivalent international examinations scores recognized by Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and a minimum score of 65 in accepted foreign language proficiency exams are required. In addition, minimum scores of 3.00 out of 4.00 CGPA (Undergraduate) is required.
All students admitted to the Master?s program have to continue and succeed in scientific preparation program that lasts one year.

Higher Grade Transition
|
Upon successful completion of this program, students may apply to third cycle programs with a required minimum scores in ALES, foreign language proficiency exams (YDS, TOEFL). And they can start a doctorate education if they are successful in interviews.

Graduation Requirements
|
In order to graduate from the Master of Science (MSc) program in physiology, students are required to complete a minimum of 120 ECTS credits during 4-semesters education, research and application activities. At least 60 of 120 ECTS credits should be obtained from compulsory / elective courses, and the rest 60 credits should be obtained from the thesis work. In addition, the student must fulfill the other requirements in the Gazi University Graduate Education and Examination Regulations.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
|
Graduates can work in public sector, research laboratories, and private sector especially healthcare companies as scientific experts. Also,this degree is mainly academically oriented and graduates are encouraged to continue to their education.

Assessment and Grading
(1) The student is evaluated with the evaluation methods and success criteria specified in the course descriptions.
(2) Exam schedule is announced on the web page by the head of the department.
(3) The student is obliged to pass the compulsory courses. For the elective courses, student can retake the same course which he failed, or choose another course instead.
(4) Students are evaluated over 100 raw points for each courses, seminar, thesis study, term project courses and proficiency exam. In order for the student to be considered successful in the relevant course, the letter grade for the master's degree must be at least CC.
(5) A student with a raw success score below 25.00 is considered unsuccessful in that course by getting a direct (FF) grade. The grade of a student with a raw success score of 25.00 and above is evaluated with one of the letter grades whose coefficients and definitions are stated below, considering with the general condition of the class, arithmetic averages and statistical distribution.
After this evaluation, it is possible that the raw achievement scores of 25.00 and above have letter grade equivalents (FF).

3) E: Incomplete, (The (E) grade, which is not corrected within three weeks following the finalization of the final exam success letter grades, is converted into (FF).
(7) CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average; AGNO) is calculated by dividing the sum of the weighted points calculated on the basis of the final grades of all courses during the student's education by the total credits of the courses taken. The obtained CGPA is shown as two digits after the comma.
(8) The grades given from (AA) to (FF) are taken as basis in the calculation of both the weighted semester and the CGPA. (G) and (D) grades are treated as (FF) grades.
(9) All grades are recorded in the student's transcript.
(10) CGPA's for graduation; it must be at least 2.50 / 4.00 in master's programs with thesis / non-thesis. Students who have completed their total credits but could not reach the graduation requirement, must take new course / courses to reach this requirement.
(11) Students who fail to qualify for the final exam because they do not fulfill the attendance requirements or the requirements for course practices are considered absent (D).
