Aim of the department is to train qualified research who can analyze and interpret the data obtained by using modern technology.Department of Statistics consists of divisions which are Statistical Theory, Applied Statistics, Operations Research, Probability Theory and Probability Process, Statistical Information Systems and Risk Analysis. There are 28 tenured/tenure-track faculties in the department with research interests in several subfields of statistics. The graduate program leads to a Master of Science, Doctorate. The undergraduate program leads to a Bachelor of Science in Statistics. In addition to the theoretical and practical courses also computer programming classes are given in the department. Students who have graduated from the Department of Statistics can be employed in universities, banking and insurance sectors, research companies, quality control departments of industrial companies, and many public institutions.

Assessment and Grading
For each course taken, students are given a letter success grade at the end of the semester/year.
This grade is given by the instructor of the course.
The letter grade is calculated by taking into account the student's success in the midterm exam, and attendance to classes. The method of calculating the letter grade is determined by the approval of the university senate.
The student's success grade is determined over 100 full points. This score is called the raw achievement score.

A student whose raw achievement score is below 25.00 fails that course by receiving a direct grade of (FF). The success grade of the student with a raw achievement score of 25.00 and above; The general condition of the class is evaluated by using one of the methods prepared with the decision of the University Education Commission and the approval of the Senate, taking into account the arithmetic averages and statistical distribution, with the coefficients and one of the letter grades specified below. After this evaluation, it is possible that raw achievement scores of 25.00 and above have letter grade equivalents (FF).

Coefficients and letter success grades are evaluated as below:
Coefficients Letter Success Grades:
4.00 AA
3.50 BA
3.00 BB
2.50 CB
2.00 CC
1.50 DC
1.00 DD
0.50 FD
0.00 FF
D: Did not Attend the Course
G: Did not Attend the Exam
E: Incomplete (The E grades which are not corrected until after 3 weeks from the finalization of letter success grades are converted to FF)
VZ: Withdrawn
* A student who receives one of the grades (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB), (CC), (DC) and (DD) from a course is considered successful. However, in order to graduate, the student's AGNO must be at least 2.00.
