About Programme
Physiotherapy
profession, is a profession which has important role for increasing
health and quality of life,          -after specialist practioner
diagnose ? using assessment techniques which are special for
physiotherapy, and gaining information and skill for planning and
applying treatment approaches which are improved by physiotherapists in
whole world, in all kinds of injury which causes movement disorders,
disease and old ages, pain and function disorders.

       
Nowadays, physiotherapists serves in all cases where the motion and
function are threatened by a variety of reasons in order to improve
movement and quality of life related to health. Present and future needs
of society in our country and the world makes inevitable the
physiotherapy profession.



        
Physiotherapists can work as public or private staff in some department
services such as orthopedics and traumatology, norology, pediatric
norology, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation,
neurosurgery, general surgery, cardiology, cardiovascular surgery,
pulmonology, thoracic surgery, pediatrics, urology, oncology, obstetrics
and gynecology, otorhinolaryngology, plastic surgery, rheumatology, all
of intensive care units, burn units in national and international
inpatient treatment center; special education and rehabilitation
centers, prosthetic and orthotic production and rehabilitation centers,
primary health care organizations, industrial areas, schools, sports
clubs, rest homes, occupational rehabilitation centers, thermal springs
centers, home care centers. They can take titles like science
specialist, doctorate, associate professor, professor by continuing
education after graduation at university with the condition pass the
exam of related education programmes.



     Our
department with application and research unit and Gazi University
Hospital?s various part will be active and carried out in each of these
units in different subjects of our field. All of the work in the units,
are aimed to improve level of independency in activities of daily living
in motion system problems and disability groups and improve quality of
life by promoting social and professional participation. In addition, in
healthy people physical fitness and exercise, back and neck health,
geriatric rehabilitation, obstetric and gynecologic rehabilitation
programmes and performance analysis athletes are among the applications
that can be done.



 



There are a
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Polyclinic that patients examine
and their treatments arrange, and 9 Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation
units which are made different physiotherapy and rehabilitation
applications in our department.

History
The history of physiotherapy date back to the time of Hippocrates. At that time patients used to massage, manual therapy or hydrotherapy using the therapeutic properties of water in order to be treated.

The first physical therapy studies in proffessional sense started in the early 17th century in Europe. Established in 1813 in Sweden the Royal Central Institute of Gymnastics (RCIG) was first institution that performed physical therapy. Massage, manipulation and exercises were doing in this centre. Official certificate started to given by Swedish National Health and Social Welfore Committee in 1887 to the physical therapists.

In Turkey 1961 the first Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation High School opened by İhsan Doğramacı in Hacettepe University and this profession has came to Turkey.

Established in Gazi University Faculty of Health Sciences in 2008 the physiotherapy school received its first students in 2009. The School has practice and research units and work with some of department of Gazi University Hospital.

Before physical therapy techniques consisting of massage, traction and exercise have improved day by day and this situation is gained authorization to physiotherapists for work in hospitals, medicine centers, special education and rehabilitation centers, sports clinics, sports teams and many other areas.
Qualification Awarded
First Cycle (Bachelor's) Degree in physiotherapy and rehabilitation
Admission Requirements
For Turkish Citizens:
(1) High School Diploma, (2) Placement through a centralised, nation-wide student selection and placement examination organized by Assessment, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the centralized exam and high school grade point averages.

For International Students:
High School Diploma and its "Certificate of Equivalency? granted by the Turkish Ministry of National Education (MoNE). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their high school grade point averages.
Higher Grade Transition
Upon successful completion of this programme, students may apply to second cycle degree or directly to integrated third cycle (doctorate) programmes.
Graduation Requirements
In order to graduate, students succeed all courses in eight semesters need to be completed at least 240 ECTS
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
This degree enables the graduate to exercise his/her profession in the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation as a physiotherapist in accordance with the national regulations and practices.
Assessment and Grading
Measurement and Evaluation
(1) For each course taken, students are given a letter success grade at the end of the semester/year.
(2) This grade is given by the instructor of the course.
(3) While evaluating the letter grade, a student?s success at classes, mid-terms/final examinations and attendance to classes are considered. The calculation of the letter grade is determined by the approval of the related academic unit and the Senate.
(4) The success grade of a student is calculated over 100 points. This grade is called raw success point.
(5) A student whose raw success point is under 25.00 is directly given an FF grade and the student fails the course. The success grade of a student whose raw success point is 25.00 and above is evaluated by using the methods determined by the board decisions of the Educational Commission of the University and the Senate; with the letter grades of which coefficients and explanations are mentioned below. After this evaluation, it is also possible that the raw success points 25.00 and above may become FF letter grades.

1) D: Did not Attend the Course

3) E: Incomplete (The E grades which are not corrected until after 3 weeks from the finalization of letter success grades are converted to FF)
4) VZ: Withdrawn
(7) A student whose letter success grade is (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB), (CC), (DC) or (DD) is considered as succeeded the course. However, the CumGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of the student must be at least 2,00 for graduation.
