History
Gazi University Civil Engineering Department's history dates back to the mid-sixties. The structure, which was formed by the merging of the private engineering-architecture colleges that started education in those years and then connected to the Ankara State Engineering and Architecture Academy, was taken into the body of Gazi University in 1982 and continues teaching in the Civil Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering.

The education and training program of the Department of Civil Engineering aims to enable students to acquire basic knowledge about civil engineering, develop their creative thinking power, and acquire research, design, planning, and application skills. Through this, Gazi University graduates will be educated who can think, develop themselves, analyze and synthesize, are researchers, have a developed social aspect, and be beneficial to their country and society. The educational process aims to transfer this information in the direction where students can use this information correctly and think freely and scientifically rather than uploading information.

To meet today's engineering education requirements, the quality improvement process in the department's education program was transformed into a systematic and permanent accreditation process in 2002, and the civil engineering education program was renewed. As a result of the studies and the evaluation process carried out by the Association for the Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Education Programs (MÜDEK), the Civil Engineering Department has the accreditation of EUR-ACE (European Accreditation of Engineering Programs), which is accepted as one of the indicators of the quality of engineering programs in Europe. Evaluation and accreditation of the department by MÜDEK continues with uninterrupted quality improvement studies.

Gazi University Civil Engineering Department offers three undergraduate programs: a partial English undergraduate program, an English undergraduate program, and a Montana State University international joint undergraduate program. At least thirty percent of the courses in the partial English program are conducted in English. The language of instruction for the other two programs is English. Among the students who have won the department, those whose English needs to be improved continue their education after a one-year preparatory program. In the Montana State University international joint undergraduate program, the first semester is at Gazi University, the second semester is in the U.S.A., and the first and third years of this program are at Gazi University. The second and fourth years are in the U.S.A.

In partial English and English undergraduate programs, students take introductory science courses, engineering mechanics, and informatics courses that will be required for their engineering education in the first two years of their undergraduate education. In the third and fourth years, studies related to civil engineering education's construction, hydraulics, transportation, and geotechnical disciplines are observed. With the non-technical elective courses in the last year, students have the chance to increase their knowledge of subjects they are curious about besides engineering education.

Students who have completed their first year in the Civil Engineering Department can benefit from Erasmus student mobility within the framework of bilateral agreements. In this framework, the activity lasts between 3 and 12 months. In addition, successful students with a double major second-degree program in the Faculty of Engineering can obtain a bachelor's degree from another department close to Civil Engineering during their undergraduate education.

The Civil Engineering Department in Gazi University Maltepe Campus has building mechanics, building materials, transportation, soil mechanics, geology/rock mechanics and hydraulic laboratories, and computer, physics, and chemistry laboratories. Undergraduate education is supported by experimental studies conducted in these laboratories. In addition, many projects funded by TUBITAK, Gazi University, Public Institutions, and Private Organizations are carried out at the graduate level in the department's laboratories.

As the Civil Engineering department, graduate and doctorate programs are carried out under the roof of Gazi University Institute of Science and Technology. Master's and doctoral students who work with faculty members who have completed their postgraduate studies at universities in Turkey or abroad contribute to science in the national and international arena with their studies in theoretical, experimental, or computational engineering fields. In addition, the Gazi University Civil Engineering Department also plays a role in training faculty members to meet other universities' faculty member needs. As part of various assignments, research assistants who receive postgraduate education in the department return to their universities after completing their education and continue their teaching and research activities.

Graduates of the department are involved in the planning, design, and construction stages of a wide variety of engineering systems in public institutions and the private sector, at home and abroad. Gazi University Department of Civil Engineering aims to train its students as qualified and virtuous civil engineers who can take responsibility in their professional lives and listen to their conscience.
Qualification Awarded
First Cycle (Bachelor's) Degree in Civil Engineering
Admission Requirements
For Turkish Citizens:
(1) High School Diploma, (2) Placement through a centralised, nationwide student selection and placement examination organised by the Assessment, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the centralised exam and high school grade point averages.

For International Students:
High School Diploma and its "Certificate of Equivalency Granted by the Turkish Ministry of National Education (MoNE). (2) Exam for International Student (YÖS) or international university entrance examinations such as SAT I, A.C.T., etc., recognised by the national authority in higher education, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their scores obtained from YÖS or equivalent exams.
Higher Grade Transition
Upon completing this program, students may apply to second cycle degree or directly to integrated third-cycle (doctorate) programs.
Graduation Requirements
To complete a course successfully, students have to obtain one of the following grades: (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB), (CC), (DC), or (DD). A student must complete the designated course program and have a minimum G.P.A. of 2.00/4.00. Students have to complete 240 ECTS credits.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
This degree enables the graduate to exercise their profession in civil engineering as a civil engineer according to the national regulations and practices.
Assessment and Grading
Measurement and Evaluation
(1) Students are given a letter success grade for each course taken at the end of the semester/year.
(2) The instructor of the course is responsible for grading.
(3) a student's success at classes, mid-terms/final examinations, and class attendance are considered while evaluating the letter grade. The approval of the related academic unit and the Senate determines the letter grade calculation.
(4) The success grade of a student is calculated over 100 points. This grade is called the raw success point.
(5) A student whose raw success point is under 25.00 is directly given an FF grade, and the student fails the course. The success grade of a student whose essential success point is 25.00 and above is evaluated by using the methods determined by the board decisions of the Educational Commission of the University and the Senate, with the letter grades of which coefficients and explanations are mentioned below. After this evaluation, the raw success points 25.00 and above may also become FF letter grades.
(6) Coefficients and letter success grades are evaluated as shown below:
a)
Coefficients Letter Success Grades
4.00 AA
3.50 BA
3.00 BB
2.50 CB
2.00 CC
1.50 DC
1.00 DD
0.50 FD
0.00 FF

b) The letter grades other than the ones in the clause "a" are:
1) D: Did not Attend the Course
2) G: Did not Attend the Exam
3) E: Incomplete (The E grades which are not corrected until after three weeks from the finalization of letter success grades are converted to FF)
4) VZ: Withdrawn
(7) A student whose letter success grade is (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB), (CC), (DC), or (DD) is considered as succeeded in the course. However, the student's CumGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) must be at least 2,00 for graduation.
