About Programme
Our department, named Gazi UBF-Photonics, is the first department established in the Faculty of Applied Sciences with the decision of the Council of Higher Education dated 20.05.2020.

Although our department was established on this date, our department's academic staff continued their education and research activities within the scope of photonic technologies, ?Gazi University Photonics Application and Research Center-GAZİ PHOTONIK?, which is the only center of excellence in this field in Turkey. started in 2001 and still continues these activities.

Our researchers carry out many projects in our country that make significant contributions to the technological product development of the industry within the scope of photonic technologies. Our students working in these projects can easily find job opportunities in related sectors.

Students who prefer our department have the chance to take part in the projects carried out at GAZİ FOTONİK. In this way, we aim to train our students as experts in photonic technologies at the end of their graduate education.

In addition, our curriculum has been created taking into account the needs of the sector; It is aimed to train our students in direct interaction with the industry during the education process. For this purpose, some of our applied courses will be given by researchers working in industrial R&D centers.

Higher Grade Transition
Graduate Graduates can apply to the Doctorate Program.
Graduation Requirements
-The duration of the master's program with thesis is four semesters for each semester, regardless of whether they are registered or not, starting from the semester in which the courses related to the program they are enrolled in, excluding the time spent in scientific preparation, and the program is completed in six semesters at most. Regulations regarding students who can graduate from the graduate program before the minimum duration are determined according to the provisions of the legislation accepted by the Senate.
- To be successful by taking a total of 120 ECTS courses from compulsory and elective courses.
- AGNO for graduation; Must be at least 2.50 / 4.00 for master's programs with / without thesis.
- The student who submits his master's thesis and other documents required by the institute to the institute, provided that he passes the thesis defense examination and meets the other conditions, is entitled to receive a master's diploma with thesis upon the decision of the institute administrative board.
-The graduation date of the student is the date on which the signed copy of the thesis is submitted to the institute by the exam jury commission after the thesis defense exam, in which the thesis is successful.
Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Thanks to the acquisitions of Photonics Science and Engineering and the entrepreneurial equipment they will receive in the Technology Transfer Office incubation center of our University, new horizons are opened to the careers of our students as the young entrepreneurs of the future.
Individuals with advanced training in Photonics Science and Engineering are in more demand today than ever before. Photonic technologies play a key role in all areas where light is used, ranging from defense systems to health.
There are more jobs and interesting technical positions available for photonics professionals in both the public and industrial sectors.
Those who specialize in photonics science and engineering are expected to be employed in industrial sectors such as lighting technologies, medical technologies, laser-based production technologies, optical communication technologies, energy, display and imaging technologies, sensor and image processing technologies.
Assessment and Grading
ARTICLE 11- (1) Students are taken to the final exam and / or end-of-term project work in addition to the mid-term exam and / or semester studies. Exam schedule is announced on the web page by the head of the relevant department of science / science.

(2) The success of the student is evaluated with the evaluation method and success criteria specified in the course description form announced at the beginning of the relevant course.

(3) The student is obliged to pass the compulsory courses. He can retake an elective course he failed, and choose another course instead.

(4) Midterm exams and / or semester studies, final exam and / or end-of-term project work are evaluated over 100 raw points. Success letter grade over 100 raw points is appreciated for seminar, thesis study, term project courses and proficiency exam. In order for the student to be successful in the relevant course, the letter grade in the master's degree must be at least CC; In doctoral and postgraduate doctoral programs, the letter grade must be at least CB.

(5) A student with a raw success score of less than 2.50 is considered unsuccessful in that course by obtaining a direct (FF) grade. The success grade of the student with a raw success score of 2.50 and above; The general condition of the class is evaluated with one of the letter grades whose coefficients and expansions are given below, taking into account the arithmetic averages and statistical distribution. After this evaluation, it is possible that the raw achievement scores of 2.50 and above have letter grade equivalents (FF).

(6) Coefficients and success letter grades are evaluated as follows:

a) Coefficients Success Letter Grade
4,00 AA

3,50 BA

3,00 BB

2,50 CB

2,00 CC

1,50 DC

1,00 DD

0,50 FD

0,00 FF
b) Notes other than those in subparagraph (a) are:

1) D: Absent,

2) G: Not entered,

3) E: Incomplete, (Converted into (E) grade (FF), which is not corrected within three weeks following the finalization of the final exam success letter grades.)

(7) AGNO is calculated by dividing the sum of the weighted points calculated on the basis of the final grades of all courses during the student's education by the total credits of the courses taken. The AGNO obtained is shown as two digits after the comma.

(8) Grades given from (AA) to (FF) are taken as basis in the calculation of both the weighted semester and the AGNO. (G) and (D) grades are treated as (FF) grades.

(9) All grades are recorded in the student's grade tracking document.

(10) AGNO's for graduation; In master's programs with / without thesis, it must be at least 2.50 / 4.00. Students who have completed their total credits but could not meet the graduation requirement meet this requirement by taking new courses / courses.

(11) Students who fail to obtain the right to take the final exam because they do not fulfill the attendance requirements or the requirements for course practices are considered absent (D).
