About Programme
Planning is the systematic, creative andsupra-political approach targeting a wide range of scales from neighborhoods,cities to rural and metropolitan areas affecting the future of regions and countries. In this regard, the planner is the decision-maker on issuesaffecting the future of people and places; linking the knowledge, skills and values acquired during their education for enhancing the quality of life and creation of sustainable environments. City and regional planners ensure the conservation of places important for collective memory as well as urban identity, provides creative spatial organizations for sustainable development, and designs the processes necessary for the realization of these and facilitates the irimplementation. The main goals of city and regional planning educationis the creation of a planned future enabling growth and development, applying methods to conserve the natural and built environment, and providing spatial improvement programs and solutions to enhance the quality of life for the wholesociety.

The Department of City and Regional Planning started undergraduate education in 1982 and graduate education in 1987.

Admission Requirements
For Turkish Citizens: (1) High School Diploma, (2) Placement through a centralised, nation-wide student selection and placement examination organized by Assessment, Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM). Candidates gain access to the programmes based on their composite scores consisting of the scores on the centralized exam and high school grade point averages.
For International Students: High School Diploma and its "Certificate of Equivalency? granted by the Turkish Foreign Agencies/ Provincial Directorate for National Education and meet the requirements of minimum score of one of the following exams/diploma; SAT Reasoning, ACT Exam, Cambridge International GCE-AL/ASL Exams and Advanced Placement Test (AP) or to have received a gold, silver or bronze medal from the international science olympics recognized and participated by TÜBİTAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) are required. Candidates gain access to the programme based on their score obtained from the mentioned exams, type of medal or diploma score, order of preference, country quota and graduation date.

Higher Grade Transition
Students who successfully complete their undergraduate education and meet the requirements of minimum graduation score, Selection Exam for Academic Personnel and Graduate Studies (ALES- Akademik Personel ve Lisansüstü Eğitimi Giriş Sınavı) score and foreign language exam score determined by Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences (GSNAS) can apply to graduate programs and enroll in these programs according to their place in ranking, if they pass the written and oral exams of these programs. There are master?s and Doctorate programs in the Department.

Graduation Requirements
There are 67 courses (240 credits) to be completed in 4 years in our department program. 53 of them are compulsory (199 credits), 14 of them are elective (41 credits). 8 (18 credits) of the compulsory courses are the ones defined obligatory by the Higher Education Institution to be included in the university education program. In addition to these, there are Internship I and InternshipII courses which students must complete during the summer terms.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Bachelor?s Degree in City and Regional Planning enables the graduate to exercise his/her profession in public institutions and organizations such as Ministries, Municipalities, Development Agencies, Turkish Statistical Institute; in private enterprises such as planning, architecture, contracting firms, real estate appraisal offices, enterprises dealing with real estate investments and consultancy offices; and in national and international non-governmental organizations.

Assessment and Grading
Measurement and Evaluation (1) For each course taken, students are given a letter success grade at the end of the semester/year. (2) This grade is given by the instructor of the course. (3) While evaluating the letter grade, a student?s success at classes, mid-terms/final examinations and attendance to classes are considered. The calculation of the letter grade is determined by the approval of the related academic unit and the Senate. (4) The success grade of a student is calculated over 100 points. This grade is called raw success point. (5) A student whose raw success point is under 25.00 is directly given an FF grade and the student fails the course. The success grade of a student whose raw success point is 25.00 and above is evaluated by using the methods determined by the board decisions of the Educational Commission of the University and the Senate; with the letter grades of which coefficients and explanations are mentioned below. After this evaluation, it is also possible that the raw success points 25.00 and above may become FF letter grades. (6) Coefficients and letter success grades are evaluated as shown below: a) Coefficients Letter Success Grades 4.00 AA 3.50 BA 3.00 BB 2.50 CB 2.00 CC 1.50 DC 1.00 DD 0.50 FD 0.00 FF
b) The letter grades other than the ones in the clause ?a? are: 1) D: Did not Attend the Course 2) G: Did not Attend the Exam 3) E: Incomplete (The E grades which are not corrected until after 3 weeks from the finalization of letter success grades are converted to FF) 4) VZ: Withdrawn (7) A student whose letter success grade is (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB), (CC), (DC) or (DD) is considered as succeeded the course. However, the CumGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of the student must be at least 2,00 for graduation.
